Alvarez & Marsal Appoints Rishi Chhatwal as a Managing Director in Its Disputes and Investigations Practice

Mr. Chhatwal’s extensive experience as an in-house and outside legal expert bolsters A&M’s forensic technology lines of service

BOSTON–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Leading global professional services firm Alvarez & Marsal (A&M) announced the appointment of Rishi Chhatwal as Managing Director within the Forensic Technology Services (FTS) group of its Disputes and Investigations (DI) practice. Mr. Chhatwal’s focus on regulatory risk, M&A discovery and information management, and FinTech investigations augments the firm’s ability to solve for clients’ global eDiscovery and information governance concerns.

Over the course of his in-house and outside counsel legal career, Mr. Chhatwal has managed evidence and document intelligence in contentious legal and regulatory situations, alongside increasing corporate transparency demands. He has counseled Fortune 10 clients on privacy, technology infrastructure, mobile devices policies and litigation discovery issues. Additionally, Mr. Chhatwal has deep expertise in policies and procedures for global data governance and government response.

Jerry Dent, Managing Director and North America Practice Leader of A&M’s Disputes and Investigations practice, noted the recent appointment of Managing Director Jonathan Marshall to lead A&M’s North America Forensic Technology Services group. “Rishi’s hire represents the latest step in DI’s strategic commitment to expand the firm’s forensic technology offering. His background aligns with A&M’s operational heritage and results-driven mindset. His expertise augments our ability to address evolving market needs against the backdrop of regulatory change and economic disruption.”

Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Chhatwal was Director and Associate General Counsel of eDiscovery and Information Governance at Coinbase, Inc. While there he led the eDiscovery team and strengthened policies and procedures in an evolving regulatory environment. Before that, Mr. Chhatwal served as Assistant Vice President – Senior Legal Counsel, Enterprise Discovery and Legal Operations at AT&T Services, Inc. He began his career as an Associate at Sidley Austin LLP in the telecommunications regulatory and intellectual property litigation practice groups.

In his previous positions, Mr. Chhatwal built a Legal Operations Center of Expertise and led legal transformation, M&A Second Requests, domestic and global eDiscovery data privacy, information governance and data remediation. He was also part of the legal team that successfully defended the first vertical merger challenge by the Department of Justice in more than 40 years.

Jonathan Marshall, Managing Director and North America Forensic Technology Services Leader welcomed the addition, “Rishi expands the firm’s forensic technology capabilities beyond our core offering into legal operations. His in-house legal eDiscovery and information governance roots provides clients with a unique perspective for navigating data driven disputes and investigations along with building operations to gain greater control over and insights from their data.”

Mr. Chhatwal earned a juris doctor, cum laude, from University of Georgia School of Law and a bachelor’s degree in journalism and international studies from Emory University. He is admitted to practice law in New York and the District of Columbia.
